Job Description

About High Scale

We’re High Scale — a future-focused, data-obsessed agency revolutionizing video advertising on TV and social media. Imagine Amazon’s obsession with metrics meeting SpaceX’s audacious ambition—that’s the DNA behind everything we do.

Our 120-person team of creatives, strategists, stylists, and production experts produces thousands of ads weekly for top lifestyle, fashion, beauty, and DTC brands. With 50,000 sq. ft. of DTLA studios, 30+ premium sets, and a global creator network, we’re scaling fast—and we need a Makeup Artist who brings exceptional artistry, speed, and precision to every on-camera moment.

Why This Role Matters

In beauty, every frame matters. As our Makeup Artist, you’ll shape the on-camera presence of talent across hundreds of videos, campaigns, and social ads. Your work doesn’t just make people look good—it enhances brand identity, builds credibility, and drives performance.

You’ll collaborate closely with directors, videographers, stylists, and creative strategists to ensure every look aligns with the aesthetic, story, and performance goals of each campaign.

Your artistry will directly influence how millions of viewers perceive our clients.

What You’ll Do

1. Execute High-Quality Makeup Looks

  • Apply makeup for models, influencers, and talent across beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and commercial shoots.
  • Create looks ranging from natural to high-glam depending on the brand and campaign concept.
  • Maintain continuity across scenes, lighting setups, and shoot days.

2. Collaborate With Creative & Production Teams

  • Work with directors, producers, and stylists to interpret creative briefs and visual references.
  • Adjust looks quickly based on lighting, camera tests, or performance needs.
  • Contribute to pre-production planning with lookbooks, mood boards, and glam direction.

3. Maintain On-Set Readiness

  • Perform touch-ups throughout the shoot to ensure flawless appearance on camera.
  • Monitor makeup durability under heat, lights, sweat, movement, and long hours.
  • Be proactive in identifying and fixing issues before they reach the camera.

4. Manage Tools, Products & Hygiene Standards

  • Come fully equipped with a professional, high-quality makeup kit.
  • Maintain strict hygiene protocols and sanitize tools regularly.
  • Select products optimized for HD, 4K, and high-intensity lighting environments.

5. Innovate & Elevate Creative Output

  • Bring new techniques, trends, and aesthetics to keep visuals modern and fresh.
  • Recommend glam concepts that enhance character, brand identity, and storytelling.
  • Support a high-performance creative environment where excellence is the baseline.

Who You Are

1. Experienced Makeup Artist

  • 3–7 years of professional makeup experience in commercial, editorial, or digital productions.
  • Skilled across a range of looks: natural, glam, clean beauty, bold/editorial, and trend-driven styles.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating on-camera and production makeup expertise.

2. Fast, Precise & Detail-Oriented

  • Can execute flawless looks under tight timelines without sacrificing quality.
  • Understand how makeup behaves under studio lighting, movement, and close-up videography.

3. Collaborative & Communicative

  • Comfortable working closely with stylists, directors, photographers, and talent.
  • Able to translate creative direction into polished, camera-ready results.

4. Calm Under Pressure

  • Thrive in fast-paced, high-volume production environments.
  • Adapt quickly when creative direction changes mid-shoot.

Perks & Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: $50,000/year
  • Creative Growth: Work across hundreds of beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and brand campaigns.
  • Studio Resources: Access to premium DTLA studios, lighting, and production teams.
  • Relentless Innovation Culture: Work with a team that iterates fast, experiments constantly, and pushes creative boundaries daily.
