The George Washington University invites applications and nominations for the position of Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. As GWs top academic leader, the EVP/Provost serves as a key member of the senior leadership team, overseeing all academic and research activities across the Universitys ten schools and colleges and its library system.
The University seeks a distinguished scholar and academic leader who has a track record of strategically and operationally increasing the stature of research and educational programs at peer universities. Candidates should possess uncompromising integrity, an unwavering moral compass, proven leadership and decision-making skills in complex academic organizations, a track record of strategic accomplishments, a history of productive collaboration within university governance structures, and experience in aligning resources to meet strategic and operational needs. The EVP/Provost will be expected to lead the George Washington University with humility, embrace interdisciplinary initiatives and serve as an advocate for scholarship across all disciplines, be a diplomat and advocate for the Universitys cherished values, and serve as a dynamic and effective leader of whom the entire University can be proud.
The successful candidate should have deep experience recruiting, developing, and retaining an outstanding and diverse faculty; elevating the undergraduate student experience, both inside and outside of the classroom; sustaining and expanding the quality and academic reputation of graduate education and professional programs; supporting innovative research and expanding research collaboration across disciplines, schools, and colleges; and developing and implementing strategies to increase academic stature, research excellence and funding, and the quality of clinical programs. Building on our recent inclusion in the Association of American Universities (AAU), the new EVP/Provost will be an essential partner with President Ellen Granberg in formulating a strategy to realize the Universitys goals over the next decade and beyond, marshaling faculty support for the vision, and communicating effectively to mobilize resources that support and sustain our efforts.
